HOW CAN WE DESIGN SUSTAINABLE
BIO-INSPIRED TEXTILES?

As designers we often find it challenging to engage and translate technical, biological, and scientific information into methods and processes that we can use in our design work.

The Bio-Inspired Textiles (BIT) is creating resources that translate and apply the knowledge found in nature to enable designers to create textiles that combat resource efficiency, longevity, and recovery.

Drawing on the ‘Biological Structural Design Elements' framework by

Naleway, et al. (2015), developed specifically for materials science and engineering, BIT is exploring how nature benefits from these structural designs.

BIT team are working to understand how each structure might be used by the textile designer to combat resource efficiency, longevity, and recovery.
